About Me
Hello, My name is Tara Tindall and I am coming back to school after several decades in the workforce. I was working for a company in Albany, OR. that went through a "Reduction in Workforce" and I was reduced. I had some options, and qualified for unemployment benefits. In the state of Oregon if you are collecting unemployment you can look for work, start a business or go back to school and still get your weekly benefits. I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to finally go back to school. I enrolled in the One Year Business Certificate because I have always wanted to be my own boss. I am tired of working for other people's dreams. I want to put in the time and effort for myself. I have been a part of a business before, in Alabama, my mother and I had an antique/home interior shop and we took a lot of things on consignment. It was called "Tassels" and we were on the same road as the country club. At first the county club ladies would stop in and buy something and sneak out and say "I don't like anyone to know where I shop" alluding to the fact that we had used antique junk. It was a place you could plunder around and find a treasure. Sometimes my mother would even mark something FREE but you had to find it of course. She would advertise in the newspaper every week and tease people with things like that. She did the business things and I did the creative things, like rearranging, sprucing and fixing things. After a short while all the country club ladies would meet there and say "we come to Tassels for desert" after lunching at the country club. It was so much fun being a part of that, but when you get popular and to be a big deal, people want to knock you down and take your spot. That was the sad demise of Tassels. Now I have my own Etsy shop "TomboyRebel" where I sell vintage clothing and home items. It's so thrilling to hear the cash register alert on my phone telling me I've sold something. It's not a big moneymaker but more of a passion for me. I sell to people in Los Angeles, New York, Brooklyn, London, Japan, Australia, etc. Buyers overseas pay more in shipping than the actual item costs! I am most interested in learning how to turn my ideas, creativity and DIY know how into a real business that people want to pay for and love for a lifetime or hand down. Our motto at Tassels was: We Recycle Beautiful Things.
